Is affiliated marketing for you?

Consider using affiliated marketing to earn some extra cash. Affiliated marketing involves you driving business to other merchant’s web sites via your own web site. Simply, you develop your web site, with your own products and then you place ads for other vendors on your site. When a visitor to your site visits one of your advertiser’s web sites and, consequently, makes a purchase, you make a commission. The way the merchant knows that the visitor has come to their site from your site is through something called an affiliate link, which is like a fingerprint, as it is unique to you.

How to get an affiliate link

First you must have a web site. Develop a web site with content specific to something you are interested in or about which you are knowledgeable. If you, yourself, are a merchant, develop a product-based web site to market your own product. Then go out and find other vendors with complementary products in which people who visit your web site might be interested. The next step in the process is to apply with the other web site as an affiliate and, the company will then provide you with what is called an affiliate link. This link is unique to you and allows the merchant to track sales, which are generated from visitors who come from your web site. When you receive your link as an affiliate, you place that link on your web site to drive your customers to the other merchant’s site.

In some affiliate cases, your client doesn’t even have to purchase the product in order for you to receive compensation. Sometimes the affiliate will give you a commission just for the person you send to their site signing up as a subscriber to their site. Also, don’t forget about cookies. Your visitor may not purchase from the site when they first visit but, they may purchase a week or two following their first visit. If the affiliate uses cookies, when your customer first visits, code is placed on their computer in the form of a cookie. So, when they visit over the next couple weeks, even if they do not visit your site first, the code tells them that you were the site that referred them and, you will still receive your commission.

You don’t need your own product to take advantage of affiliated marketing

You just need to develop an interesting site, which will attract potential customers for your affiliates. Choose something that you are knowledgeable about and something of which you have interest. Make your site attention-grabbing, so that you will bring traffic again and again to your site. Remember, the more you can get people to your site, the more they will visit your affiliates and the more money you will make.
